哈尼曼 （1755-1853， 格言11）早於170年前已經得出結論，病徵不是疾病。

他認為疾病是可以令生命力（使人充滿活力的動力）或精神力產生紊亂的事與物。這個定義的缺點是它相當模糊。 然而，這確實清楚地表明，他認為疾病的根源在於能量或精神層面。

舉例說小朋友看到蜘蛛嚇哭了，那麼哭是病徵，但不是疾病。那麼難道蜘蛛是疾病？亦不是，疾病是害怕蜘蛛。疾病是擾亂精神力或生命力的事與物，蜘蛛是病源，害怕蜘蛛是疾病，作用在精神層面的紊亂。所以另一個小孩可以玩弄蜘蛛，而這個小孩已經逃離現場。

這就最好解釋了，為何十人同枱吃飯，只有兩人吃完又疴又嘔。因為疴嘔是病徵，不是疾病；有毒的食物是病源也不是疾病；疾病是當事人腸胃易敏既狀態，是這種狀態令到生命力容易產生紊亂，而發出訊號，即是病徵又疴又嘔。

所以疾病是易感性，每個人的易感性都不一樣，疾病狀態都不一樣，這些個人化的易感性，疾病作用方式必須清楚記錄，便能有效地找到相配的療劑。

當一個人生病時，只有這種精神上、自我作用的（自動的），在有機體中無處不在的生命力，在受到一種對生命有害的病態因素的動態影響而擾亂的情況。 只有精神錯亂到如此不正常的狀態，才能給有機體帶來令人不快的感覺，並使其陷入我們稱之為疾病的不規則過程。 因為，作為一種本身不可見的力量，只有透過它對有機體的影響才能認識到它的病態紊亂，只有透過暴露於觀察者和感官的有機體部分的感覺和功能中疾病的表現，才能認識到它的病態失調。醫生，也就是說，透過病態症狀，沒有其他方式可以讓自己知道。

Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1853, 1985b, § 11, page 41)had already come to the conclusion that the complaints are not the disease. He calls disease a derangement of the vital force, the dynamic or spiritual force which animates man. The disadvantage of this definition is that it is rather vague. It does make it clear, however, that he saw the root of disease to be on the energetic or psychic level.

For example, if a child cries when he sees a spider, then crying is a symptom, but not a disease. Then, are spiders a disease? No, the disease is fear of spiders. Disease is something that disrupts dynamic or spiritual of the vital force. Spiders are the source of disease. Fear of spiders is a disease, a disorder that affects the psychic level. That's why another child can play with the spider while this child already escaped.

This is the best explanation for why ten people eating dinner together, only two of them felt sick and vomited after eating. This is because vomiting is a symptom, not a disease; poisonous food is the source of the disease and yet not a disease; disease is a state in which the sensitive gastrointestinal tract of the person. This state makes the vitality easy to be disordered, and sends out a signal that the symptoms are both diarrhoea and vomiting.

Therefore, diseases are Susceptibility, and everyone's susceptibility and disease status are different. These individual susceptibility and disease mode must be clearly recorded in order to effectively find matching remedy.

Organon § 11 Fifth Edition

When a person falls ill, it is only this spiritual, self acting (automatic) vital force, everywhere present in his organism, that is primarily deranged by the dynamic1 influence upon it of a morbific agent inimical to life; it is only the vital force, deranged to such an abnormal state, that can furnish the organism with its disagreeable sensations, and incline it to the irregular processes which we call disease; for, as a power invisible in itself, and only cognizable by its effects on the organism, its morbid derangement only makes itself known by the manifestation of disease in the sensations and functions of those parts of the organism exposed to the senses of the observer and physician, that is, by morbid symptoms, and in no other way can it make itself known.
